Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim confirmed on Wednesday that Netherlands centre-forward Joshua Zirkzee is out for the season with a hamstring problem.

On April 12, local time, Zirkzee pulled the right hip muscle in the 52nd minute of Manchester United's 4-1 loss to Newcastle United. He was eventually helped off the field. Talking about his injury, Amorim said at a press conference before the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final against Lyon: "Joshua will not be able to return before the end of this season. He will not be able to continue to participate. We need to prepare for next season."

Amorim added: "It's a very difficult situation, especially at the moment. I think he has improved in all aspects, but the injury has forced him to rest. That's how football is, he has to focus on recovery."

The 23-year-old Zirkzee came from the Bayern Munich youth training and made his debut for the first team in the Champions League on December 11, 2019. He then played for Parma, Real Anderlecht and Bologna, and joined Manchester United for 42.5 million euros in July 2024 to start his Premier League career.

So far this season, Zirkzee has made 48 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 7 goals and providing 3 assists, helping the team to rank 14th in the Premier League with 10 wins, 8 draws and 14 losses and 38 points. Manchester United currently has 6 Premier League games left, and the last game will be against Aston Villa on May 25.

If Manchester United successfully advance to the Europa League final, they will travel to Bilbao, Spain on May 21.
