Sunderland are about to host Brighton at the Stadium of Light in their 30th Premier League match. Manager Regis Lebrs admitted in the pre-match press conference that the team needs to make changes to prove their strength.
Sunderland currently hold 40 points after 29 league matches. Although they secured four valuable points in recent away games, their two consecutive home defeats remain a significant concern. Lebrides clearly stated that the first priority upon returning home is to reverse the losing streak.
"After two consecutive home losses, we urgently need to change our current situation and momentum, and prove to the outside world the true strength of our squad," Lebrides admitted in an interview.
However, Brighton is by no means an easy opponent. Lebrs gave the away team extremely high praise, emphasizing Brighton's distinctive tactical style, not only their excellent ball control, agile movement, and diverse scoring methods, but also their suffocating immediate counter-pressing.
Lebrice said, "This will be an extremely exciting challenge, and we must embrace it with open arms, readjust our mindset, and wear our desire to win on our sleeves."
Lebrides showed no signs of complacency regarding the Premier League's traditional 40-point safety margin for relegation. He warned his players that in this brutal league where any team can beat each other, there is no room for complacency.
“We must maintain a highly focused mindset,” Lebrides emphasized. “While every game presents an opportunity to take all three points, every game is a tough battle. We must continue to fight because no one can guarantee that our current 40 points are absolutely secure. Sunderland’s ambitions extend far beyond just 40 points.”
