The Athletic cited sources from the London Metropolitan Police and reported on Thursday, that authorities have issued a formal arrest warrant for a Premier League club owner suspected of years of sexually assaulting underage girls.
According to the report, the man involved is a prominent figure in British football and owns a Premier League club. Police have obtained a warrant to gather evidence at the owner's home, who is suspected of sexually assaulting underage girls, and will arrest him for questioning.
Police summoned the man for questioning. However, according to official police documents, despite the victim's concerns about evidence of her sexual assault being illegally recorded when the investigation was reopened last year, he was not arrested or listed as a candidate for a search warrant. This has left a senior officer deeply concerned that "a golden opportunity to arrest him was missed."
The London Metropolitan Police confirmed that they had received multiple reports from women alleging that the man had sexually assaulted them as minors over the years, and that two different police units were assigned to investigate the cases.
One of the victims in these reports was a 15-year-old girl at the time of the assault. However, in each case, the police decided to take no further action (NFA).
The woman, who claimed she was raped at age 15, exercised her victim's right to review (VRR), requesting that the police review their decision not to charge the suspect.
Although the inspector leading the case conducted a six-month reinvestigation process and questioned police tactics in the previous investigation, the police concluded that there was a lack of evidence for the 30-year-old allegation, so no charges were laid and the outcome remained unchanged.
The senior investigating officer made this decision without consulting the Crown Prosecution Service and stated in the VRR report: "I conclude that the initial decision to take no further action is upheld. It is important to note that this decision does not mean that the victim is not believed, but rather that the evidentiary test did not meet the standard for proceeding."
The Athletic also revealed that the newspaper had intended to report on the case in detail since last year, but due to the man's identity being protected, the media could only provide a brief report on the incident, which did not attract much attention.
However, while the man's identity is protected, the English Football Association's safeguarding department was aware of the allegations against him and launched an independent investigation last November to determine "the potential or actual risk posed by the individual to children and/or at-risk adults in affiliated football."
If the FA deems a significant risk, they have the power to issue an interim suspension while a full risk assessment report is conducted. However, this did not occur, and the man continued to work normally while the FA's investigation was ongoing.
Due to the escalating nature of the case, police assured The Athletic they were taking the matter "extremely seriously" as "tackling violence against women and girls is a key focus for investigators."
"Our specialist officers, who specialize in investigating non-recent sexual offenses, conducted a thorough and extensive investigation, including obtaining statements from those affected. We have decided not to take further action on these allegations. Victim review rights have been exercised, but the decision not to take further action is upheld."
Although there has been no concrete evidence, speculation is rife online that the man involved is West Ham United owner David Sullivan.
The Welsh West Ham United owner, nicknamed "Dildo Brother" and worth an estimated £1.1118 billion, made his fortune in the porn industry. He was once sentenced to 71 days in prison for scamming sex workers in the early 1980s. Over the years, there have been many gossips about his obsession with young women.
