Bayern Munich announced on its official website on Thursday that Bayer Leverkusen's Germany international center back Jonathan Tah has officially joined the club as a free agent after his contract had expired.
According to Bayern's official statement, Tah has signed on a long-term four-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2029. He will wear the No. 4 jersey which was vacated by Matthijs de Ligt after his transfer to Manchester United. He will also join the club immediately and participate in the FIFA Club World Cup.
After completing his joining procedures, Tah, who was interviewed by Bayern Munich's official website for the first time, said: "I am very happy to join Bayern. I want to take responsibility here, work hard every day, let us succeed as a team and win more trophies together."
About Jonathan Tah
Tah, 29, was born in Hamburg, Germany on February 11, 1996. He is 1.95 meters tall and plays as a center back. He has dual nationality of Germany and Côte d'Ivoire.
Tah played for local non-league clubs in Hamburg when he was a child. In 2009, he joined Hamburg's youth academy and completed his Hamburg first-team debut in a DFB-Pokal match in August 2013.
On the summer transfer window deadline day of the following year, Tah was loaned-out to Fortuna Düsseldorf.
In July 2015, Tah moved to Bayer Leverkusen for €7.5 million.
During his 10-year spell at Die Werkself, Tah played 402 times for Leverkusen in all competitions, scored 18 goals, assisted 13 times, won the Bundesliga once, the DFB-Pokal once and the DFL-Super Cup once with the club, and has been selected into the UEFA Europa League's Team of the Season three times.
