Borussia Mönchengladbach officially announced on Monday that 46-year-old Gerardo Servane will no longer serve as head coach from now on.

Sevaner played extensively in the Swiss Super League as a player, transitioning to coaching immediately after retiring in 2010. He initially oversaw youth development at Lucerne before being promoted to the first team in January 2018. Under Sevaner's leadership, Lucerne's league position improved from ninth to third.

With his outstanding coaching performance, Sevaner was subsequently hired as head coach by Young Boys Bern, where he also performed well, leading the team to three Swiss Super League titles and one Swiss Cup before leaving.

Sevaner officially joined the Bundesliga in January 2021. He initially led Bayer Leverkusen to a record of 26 wins, 10 draws, and 20 losses, and then, after taking over Borussia Mönchengladbach in June 2023, he led the team to a record of 25 wins, 20 draws, and 33 losses. However, Borussia Mönchengladbach has not won a single game in the Bundesliga since April of this year and has started the season third from the bottom with a record of 1 draw and 2 losses.

Regarding the decision to change coaching, Borussia Mönchengladbach's general manager Roland Wilkus explained: "After an in-depth review of the start of this season, we believe that a change of coach is necessary. After ten consecutive winless games in the Bundesliga across the season, we no longer believe that Gerardo can turn the situation around."

Borussia Mönchengladbach chairman Rainer Bonhof added: "Gerardo took over as manager when the team was struggling. He consistently followed the club's course, pushed forward the team's development process and ultimately stabilised the situation. However, Borussia Mönchengladbach's performances at the end of last season did not meet our expectations, nor did the start of this season. Taking action at this time to inject new momentum into the team is the right decision. We thank Gerardo for his hard work and wish him all the best in his professional and personal endeavours."
