Brentford officially announced on Thursday that they have extended the contract of Norwegian defender Christopher Ayer. The new contract extends the run from 2028 to June 30, 2030, with an option to extend for another year.

The 27-year-old Ajer came through the Lillestrøm youth academy and made his professional debut for IFK Gårdens IF in the Norwegian Premier League on July 19, 2014. After playing for Celtic and Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premier League for five years, he joined Brentford in July 2021 for €15.7 million.

To date, Ayer has made 113 appearances for Brentford, scoring 3 goals and providing 5 assists.

After the contract extension was finalized, Brentford manager Keith Andrews said: "I am delighted that Chris agreed to the extension. He has been with Brentford since the beginning of their Premier League career and has played a vital role in the club – both on and off the pitch."

“Chris is very popular with other players and is now an experienced player. He is exactly the type of player I want to keep, rather than looking for new signings. Sometimes coaches tend to focus too much on external factors and neglect the players they already have in their squad.”

In a subsequent interview, Ayer expressed his joy at the contract extension: "I am very happy. I have spent four and a half years of my professional career at this club, and the extension makes me very happy."
