Celtics and Jazz reach deal: Georgis Nien returns to Utah

The Utah Jazz and the Boston Celtics reached an offseason trade, officially bringing back forward Georges Niang.
The Utah Jazz also received two future second-round draft picks in exchange for rookie R.J. Lewis Jr. to Boston. The trade will become official after the players pass physicals.
The trade brings Nien back to his former team, the Utah Jazz, four years after leaving the team. The 6-foot-7, 230-pound Nien is entering his tenth season in the NBA.
During his career, Nian played for the Indiana Pacers, Utah Jazz, Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks, playing a total of 544 games, averaging 7.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, with a shooting percentage of 44.5% and a three-point shooting percentage of 39.9%.
While playing for the Atlanta Hawks in the 2024-25 season, Nien played the best performance of his career, with his average points per game increasing to 12.1 points and his three-point shooting percentage reaching 41.3%.
This deal also allows the Utah Jazz to reintroduce this familiar face who played for the team for four seasons from 2017 to 2021. That year, Nien became an important rotation player in the lineup with his stable outside shooting ability and entered the playoffs with the team three times.
At the same time, the Utah Jazz also received two future second-round picks from the Boston Celtics: one in 2027 and the other in 2031. This further enriches the Utah Jazz's asset reserves in future drafts and provides more room for the team's long-term planning.
Although the team sent away the promising rookie Lewis, the Utah Jazz management obviously believed that it was worthwhile to reintroduce the experienced and in-form Nien and exchange him for two future chips.
