Manchester City chairman Mubarak recently talked about the 2025 Club World Cup in an interview and said that Manchester City will go all out to compete for the championship.
With goals from Gundogan and Haaland, Manchester City defeated Fulham 2-0 in the last round of the 2024/25 Premier League. After 38 rounds of games with 21 wins, 8 draws and 9 losses, Manchester City ended this challenging season with a third place and a Champions League qualification.
With the end of the league, Manchester City will fly to the United States in June to participate in the 2025 Club World Cup, and the first round of the group match will be against Al-Wednesday Athletic Club.
Manchester City chairman Mubarak said, "This is a very important event that the whole world will pay attention to this game this summer. Many of the world's top teams will gather together. I can assure you that we will go all out and aim to win the championship."
"We will go all out to win this tournament, this is the start of a new season, not a continuation of last season. Now the team will have a break, then we will start pre-season training and then go straight to the Club World Cup."
On the other hand, Belgian star De Bruyne will bid farewell to Manchester City this summer after playing for many years. The 33-year-old De Bruyne joined Manchester City at the end of August 2015 and won six Premier League titles, two FA Cup titles, five League Cup titles and one Champions League title in his 10 years at Manchester City.
In addition, De Bruyne played 422 games in his Manchester City career, scored 108 goals and contributed 170 assists, and was one of the contributors to the team's multiple Champions League wins.
Mubarak said, "De Bruyne is an incredible player. My opinion is somewhat subjective. I look at it from the perspective of a chairman who has been involved in the club's operations for a long time, and also as a fan. From this perspective, everything De Bruyne has done for the club, in my heart he is the greatest player in Manchester City."
"The number of trophies he has won with the club, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Community Shield and League Cup, is an astonishing statistic and the most of any Manchester City player. In terms of individual achievements, he has also been named PFA Player of the Year twice."
Mubarak added: “His influence on everyone at the club is unquestionable, from the academy to the global fans, not just Manchester City fans but people who love football all over the world.”
"So Kevin De Bruyne has transcended the definition of this team and I'm very proud of what he has achieved. When we brought him in from Wolfsburg it was one of the best decisions in the history of our club and I remember people saying we spent too much at the time."
