Werder Bremen issued a statement on Thursday announcing the extension of Niklas Stark's contract, which was originally scheduled to last until 2026. As usual, the club did not disclose the length and specific details of the extension.
Niklas Stark, 30, was born in Neustadt an der Aisch, Germany. He mainly played as a central defender and defensive midfielder in his career. He came from the youth training of Nuremberg and made his debut in the Bundesliga for the first team on April 27, 2013.
Stark previously played for Hertha Berlin for seven years, during which he made 199 appearances, contributed 8 goals and 4 assists. He joined Werder Bremen as a free agent in 2022, and has played a total of 75 games so far, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists.
Regarding the decision to renew Tucker's contract, Bremen's director of football Peter Niemeyer explained: "Niklas has fully fulfilled our expectations of him in the past few years, so we quickly made it clear that we want to continue working with him. He is a core member and leader of the team and plays an important role off the court. We are very happy that he agrees with Bremen's philosophy and entrusts his future to it."
Stark said: "I feel very comfortable in Bremen and in this city. In the past three years, we have made very positive developments at the sporting level and I firmly believe that this road has not yet come to an end. I am very much looking forward to being able to participate in shaping the future of Werder Bremen."
