FA Cup – Goy scores as Manchester City beat Salford City 2-0


The fourth round of the 2025/26 FA Cup continued with a key match, with Premier League giants Manchester City defeating League Two side Salford City 2-0 thanks to an own goal and a goal from Gue.


Three minutes into the match, Allan was brought down by Salford City midfielder Kelly Nmay as he prepared to pass the ball, and the referee showed Nmay a yellow card. In the 6th minute, Reindes created an attacking opportunity, and Ete Nouri received the ball and entered the penalty area before crossing it. Salford City defender Alfie Dorrington inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net, giving Manchester City a 1-0 lead.


In the 18th minute, Salford City launched a counter-attack. Osterfield received a diagonal pass from Ryan Grayton and attempted a shot, but it was cleared. In the 21st minute, Allan suffered an injury and was replaced by McAdoo after being unable to continue.


In the 23rd minute, Husanov played a long pass, and Malmush received it before chipping the ball into the net from inside the penalty area. However, the goal was disallowed due to offside. In the 36th minute, Manchester City took a corner kick, and Stones went down as he went to receive the ball, but the referee did not award a penalty. In the 38th minute, Manchester City's attack was cleared, and Foden received the ball outside the penalty area and took a long-range shot, but the ball went over the goal.


In the 42nd minute, Ryan Greton passed the ball back in a scramble, and Woodburn received it and shot, but Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford immediately dived to block the ball.


In the 50th minute of the second half, Rajan Sherkhi broke through the defense and passed the ball to McAdoo, who took a shot, but the ball was saved by Salford City goalkeeper Matthew Young. In the 67th minute, Manchester City substituted Goy and Semenho for Stones and Foden.


In the 72nd minute, Salford City launched a counter-attack from a corner kick. Ryan Grayton prepared to shoot, but the ball was cleared by Nico Aureli. In the 77th minute, Malmush broke into the penalty area and crossed the ball. Nico Aureli's shot was blocked by Salford City goalkeeper Matthew Young. Semenho then took a follow-up shot, but the ball hit the side netting.


In the 81st minute, Manchester City took a free kick. Rajen Scherki's shot from the penalty area was blocked by Salford City goalkeeper Matthew Young, but Goy then slotted the ball home to extend Manchester City's lead to 2-0. In the 85th minute, Semenho received a through pass from Rajen Scherki and fired a low shot, but the ball hit the post.


Manchester City ultimately defeated Salford City 2-0, advancing to the FA Cup Round of 16.
