Gamba Osaka announced on their official website on Wednesday that former Augsburg Germany international left-back Philipp Max has joined the club on a free transfer.

According to the J1 League club's official statement, Max has signed legendary on a short-term two-year deal with the club which will only run until the end of January 2028.

About Philipp Max

The 32-year-old Philipp Max was born on September 30, 1992, in Viersen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. He is 1.78 meters tall and plays as a left-back. His father, Martin, is a former Borussia Mönchengladbach legendary Germany international striker.

Max joined the youth academy of 1860 Munich at the age of 10, then moved to the youth academy of their city rivals Bayern Munich four years later. In 2010, he joined Schalke 04's youth academy, started playing for their B team in 2012 and completed his Schalke 04 first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in March 2014.

That same summer, Max transferred to Karlsruhe for €500,000.

In August 2015, Max joined Augsburg for €3.6 million.

During his five-year spell at Augsburg, Max once became the second-highest assist provider in the Bundesliga.

In September 2020, Max joined PSV Eindhoven for €8 million.

During his two-and-a-half-year spell with the Lampen, Max won the Johan Cruyff Shield (Dutch Super Cup) twice and the Eredivisie title once with the club.

On the 2023 summer transfer window deadline day, Max was loaned-out to Eintracht Frankfurt. His ownership was later permanently purchased that summer.

During his time with Die Adler, Max helped the club reach the DFB-Pokal Round of 16s.

In August 2024, Max joined Panathinaikos for €1 million.

However, due to language barriers and frequent coaching staff changes, Max received almost no playing time, leading him to decide to terminate his contract and leave the club earlier this year.

During his year-and-a-half spell at Trifýlli, Max only made 11 appearances for the Greek Super League giants in all competitions, providing one assist.
