Ernesto Valverde expressed pride in his players and the strong bond between the squad and its fans, and celebrated the unity between all departments at the club at the end of this historic year.  

Athletic Bilbao's season ended with a 3-0 defeat to Barcelona, but the defeat did not overshadow the fans' grand send-off for retiring captain Oscar de Marcos.  

"We have done a great job finishing the season, we are stronger when we are united and now is the time to celebrate," said Ernesto Valverde.  

Athletic Bilbao head coach Ernesto Valverde is looking forward to the upcoming games after renewing his contract for at least one more season.  

"Honestly, I feel very good," said the coach. "I have a huge sense of responsibility towards Athletic Bilbao, the club and everyone I work with. At the same time, I am committed to driving the club forward."  

On this emotional night, Oscar De Marcos bid farewell to the team, the captain's armband was officially handed over to Iñaki Williams, and head coach Ernesto Valverde predicted a bright future for the team.  

Ernesto Valverde added: "Iñaki Williams is one of the captains, along with Inigo Lecu, Youri, Unai Simon and Yere. They are ready to take over and have great respect from the club and the fans. I am sure Iñaki Williams will continue the spirit of their predecessors."
