The Indiana Pacers hope to renew the contract with Myles Turner while maintaining roster depth, ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported on Sunday.

The Pacers will face a difficult decision in their lineup this summer, especially regarding the future of Myles Turner. Turner, 28, is the Pacers' core player, averaging 14.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.7 steals and 2.2 blocks per game in his career. He played 72 regular season games for the Pacers this season, averaging 15.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, shooting 48.1% from the field and 39.6% from three-point range.

After entering the playoffs, Turner played 13 times, averaging 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, shooting 51.1% from the field and 38.9% from three-point range. The Pacers are currently playing against the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals and are currently leading the Knicks by one game with a score of 2-1.

However, Turner will become an unrestricted free agent this summer. According to TA reporter Jovan Buha, Turner's expected starting salary for the new contract may exceed $30 million.

The Pacers have never hit the luxury tax line since 2005. But as the team advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for two consecutive seasons, the management began to re-examine the financial investment strategy. Sources revealed that the Pacers management is willing to increase investment if necessary and does not rule out paying the luxury tax again to retain the core lineup.

However, a high-paying contract extension for Turner will inevitably reduce the team's salary operating space, affecting subsequent signings and lineup optimization. If the offer is beyond the acceptable range, the Pacers may have to make a choice between retaining the core and controlling expenses.
