FA Cup – Garnacho scores as Chelsea beat Wrexham 4-2.


In another FA Cup fifth round match of the 2025/26 season, Chelsea, playing away, came from behind to defeat Wrexham 4-2, thanks to an own goal, as well as goals from Josh Achampong, Ganacho and João Pedro.


In the 18th minute, Callum Doyle made a long pass, and Sam Smith received the ball and entered the penalty area before firing a low shot into the net, giving Wrexham a 1-0 lead. In the 22nd minute, Wrexham defender Zach Viner was pulled down by Lavia while dribbling forward, and the referee showed Lavia a yellow card.


In the 26th minute, Chelsea attempted a counter-attack. Pedro Neto chipped the ball into the penalty area from the right wing, but Ganacho's volley went wide. In the 31st minute, Ryan Longman received the ball and broke into the penalty area before shooting, but the ball deflected and was saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Roberto Sanchez.


In the 40th minute, Liam Delap played a through ball to Ganacho, who unleashed a powerful shot. The ball was deflected by an opposing player before hitting Wrexham goalkeeper Okonkwo and going into the net, leveling the score at 1-1 for Chelsea.


In the 49th minute of the second half, Ryan Longman delivered a cross, and Max Cliftons headed the ball in the penalty area, but it went over the goal. In the 54th minute, Chelsea created an attacking opportunity, with Garnacho receiving the ball and sprinting into the penalty area before firing a low shot that went wide. In the 63rd minute, Pedro Neto passed the ball to Jorel Hatto, who took a shot but it went wide.


In the 72nd minute, Ganacho received a pass from his teammate near the penalty area and unleashed a long-range shot, but the ball was caught by Wrexham goalkeeper Okonkwo. In the 78th minute, a Wrexham corner was cleared, and Josh Windas unleashed a long-range shot from outside the penalty area. The ball deflected off Callum Doyle and into the goal, giving Wrexham a 2-1 lead over Chelsea once again.


In the 82nd minute, Andre Santos played a through ball to Josh Achampong in the penalty area, who slotted the ball past the defender to equalize for Chelsea at 2-2. In second-half stoppage time, Ganaggio was brought down by Wrexham midfielder George Dobson during an attack. After VAR intervention, the referee showed Dobson a red card.


In the 96th minute of extra time, Dario Essugo received the ball and chipped it into the penalty area, where Ganacho volleyed it into the net, giving Chelsea a 3-2 lead over Wrexham. In the 114th minute, Wrexham launched a counter-attack from a corner kick. Kiefer Moore headed the ball across, and Lewis Brunt headed it into the net, but the goal was disallowed because Brunt had been offside.


In stoppage time of extra time, Dario Essugo passed the ball to João Pedro, who then entered the penalty area and slotted it home, securing a 4-2 victory for Chelsea.


Ultimately, Chelsea eliminated Wrexham 4-2 away from home.
