Sky Sports' renowned Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, released a video on his personal official YouTube channel on Tuesday and reported that Aston Villa is close to signing Rosenborg's Norway U21s international midfielder wonderkid Sverre Nypan.

According to Romano's report, Villa and Rosenborg, as well as Nypan himself and his agent, have been actively and frequently in contact with each other since several months ago. The Premier League powerhouse even arranged for Nypan to fly to the UK accompanied by his agent to visit Aston Villa's training facilities and meet with head coach Unai Emery and sporting director Monchi not long ago.

Currently, Nypan and his agent have reached an agreement in principle with Aston Villa on his contract, but because some bonus and add-on clauses and transfer fees have not yet been finalized, Villa is still actively negotiating with Rosenborg on these related matters.

Not long after, The Athletic's resident renowned English transfer journalist David Ornstein, also confirmed the matter.

Ornstein revealed that in addition to Villa, there are actually several Premier League clubs that have actively participated in the transfer battle for Nypan. Among them, Manchester City and Arsenal are the most active.

He said that Manchester City had proposed that Nypan be loaned-out to sister club Girona first and then integrated into the first-team as Kevin De Bruyne's successor. The Gunners kept hardselling to him about how Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly and etc., can grow into one of the hottest talents in today's football under the coaching of head coach Mikel Arteta.

However, Nypan is still inclined to accept joining Aston Villa because of their rich experience in developing young players, qualifying for European competitions and obtaining consistent first-team opportunities.

Sverre Nypan, who is only 18 years old, was born in Trondheim, Norway on December 19, 2006. He is 1.82 meters tall and primarily plays as a center midfielder. He can also play as an attacking midfielder or center forward.

Nypan joined the youth academy of the Norwegian non-league club Nardo since he was a child. In 2020, he joined the Rosenborg youth academy and completed his Rosenborg first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in December 2022. At the age of 15, he also broke the record of Hou Yongyong, a naturalized player of the Chinese national football team, and became the youngest player in Rosenborg's club history.
