Wolfsburg announced on Wednesday that Danish international Christian Eriksen has officially joined the club. Eriksen's contract with Manchester United expires this summer and he is joining on a free transfer.

Officials also confirmed that Eriksen has signed a contract with Wolfsburg until June 30, 2027. During this period, he will wear the No. 24 jersey of the green and white army.

"We are very pleased to have seized this opportunity at such short notice," Wolfsburg sporting director Sebastian Hindzilotz said in a statement. "With Christian Eriksen, we are acquiring a player who has seen a lot at the highest level. His vast experience, exceptional skills and personality will be an invaluable inspiration for our young players."

"We made conscious structural adjustments this summer and signed several young talents with great potential. Christian is an ideal addition to the team as a leader alongside our captain Max Arnold. He can play an important role both on and off the pitch."

Eriksson added: "For me, Wolfsburg is my first stop in the Bundesliga – I'm really looking forward to this new adventure. I'm convinced that we can create something special together at Wolfsburg. The discussions with the club's management went very smoothly. I immediately felt that Paulo Simonis had clear plans for the team and for me. The squad includes many familiar faces from the Danish national team, which makes Wolfsburg very attractive to me."

Eriksen, 33, primarily plays as a midfielder. He made his professional debut for Ajax on January 17, 2010, in the 18th matchday of the Eredivisie. He subsequently played for Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, and Brentford, helping Inter Milan win the 2020/21 Serie A title.

In July 2022, Eriksen joined Manchester United on a free transfer. To date, he has made 107 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 8 goals and providing 19 assists, winning both the FA Cup and the League Cup with the team.

As for the national team, Eriksen has played 144 times for Denmark so far, including three World Cups (2010, 2018, 2022) and three European Championships (2012, 2021, 2024). He suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during the 2021 European Championship and had a defibrillator implanted.
