With goals from Pedro Neto and Enzo, Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory over Burnley in a key match of the 12th round of the 2025/26 Premier League season. Gitens stated that the win was significant for the Blues and he was pleased to see the tactics honed in training having a positive effect on the game.
In the 37th minute, Gitens received the ball outside the penalty area and delivered a cross. Pedro Neto immediately rushed forward and headed the ball into the net, giving Chelsea a 1-0 lead.
In the 88th minute of the second half, Giu dealt with the defense in the penalty area and passed the ball back to Enzo, who seized the opportunity and pushed the ball into the net, helping Chelsea extend their lead to 2-0.
Chelsea ultimately defeated Burnley 2-0 away from home. With this third consecutive win, Chelsea currently sit second in the league table with 23 points, six points behind leaders Arsenal.
"It's no easy feat to get 3 points away from home, and we knew it would be a very tough game, but we won, so I'm very happy for the team," said 21-year-old Gitens.
“It was a tough battle. It’s really not easy to play against Burnley, and getting three points is very important for us. We become more confident in these kinds of games, which is great. It shows that we’re here to compete, and getting three points here means a lot to us.”
Speaking about the assist for Pedro Neto, Gitens shared, "This is a type of cross we practice almost every day in training, and it worked in this match, which makes me very happy to achieve results in an official game."
“I saw Enzo and Pedro Neto at the far post, so I thought that as long as I passed the ball to that position, either of them would have a chance to shoot, and Pedro Neto eventually did it.”
In addition, Gitens said, "We hope to win as many games as possible and compete for the Premier League title and other trophies, and I need to continue to work hard and learn from my teammates and the coaching staff."
