The Memphis Grizzlies have officially announced that their star center, Zach Edey, will remain sidelined for at least six more weeks due to a slower-than-expected recovery from a stress reaction injury to his left ankle.

Edi has been sidelined with injury since December 7th. Although the team was previously optimistic about his recovery, the latest medical assessment is not ideal.

The Grizzlies' official statement said: "Based on the unanimous advice of multiple consulting experts, Edie will continue with the current burden reduction and rehabilitation plan, and will be re-evaluated in about six weeks."

This means that the 2.21-meter tall center will definitely miss Thursday's crucial game against the Orlando Magic in Berlin, and his return will be delayed until at least the end of February.

For this former Purdue star and two-time Associated Press Player of the Year, the early injury history of his career is worrying. He underwent surgery on his left ankle after being named to the All-Freshman First Team last June, causing him to miss the first 13 games of this season.

Despite Edie's impressive performance after returning on November 15th, averaging 13.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per game and showcasing his double-double dominance, he suffered another injury just a month later. As a big man, the recurring stress injuries to his ankle undoubtedly pose a threat to his career prospects.

Besides Edie, the Grizzlies' injury list remains long. Brandon Clarke (calf strain) and Scottie Pippen (toe surgery) are expected to be out for another four to six weeks. The issue of interior rotation will be a huge test for the Grizzlies' coaching staff during this crucial stretch of the season.
