Hamburg officially announced on Monday that the buy-out clause for Rennes' loaned centre-back Vormed Omari has officially taken effect. The two sides signed a four-and-a-half-year contract, valid until June 30, 2030.
Other reports indicate that Hamburg paid approximately €2 million to buy out Omarí.
Omari, 25, was born on the island of Mayotte and holds dual French and Comorian citizenship. He came through the Rennes youth academy and made his professional debut for the first team in Ligue 1 on August 15, 2021.
In August 2025, Omari transferred to Hamburg on a loan with an option to buy. Due to a severe ankle sprain, he only made 7 appearances for Hamburg, without contributing a goal or assist.
Despite this, Hamburg remains confident in Omar's future development. Following the signing, club CFO and board member Eric Huwer stated with satisfaction: "We are delighted that Vormed has recovered his fitness. Before his injury, he proved his ability through his performances. He has made significant progress in a short period, and we hope to continue to work with him to drive this development in the coming years. His positive and open attitude is also impressive, and we are very pleased to have signed him ahead of schedule."
Hamburg's sporting director, Klaus Costa, later added: "Wormed has had a significant impact on our matches with his attacking defensive style and composed ball control. On the field, he fully demonstrates excellent vision and a deep understanding of the game. He is an important part of our team, and securing Wormed's future in advance is crucial for us. We look forward to building the future together with him."
Omari said: "I am very happy to stay in Hamburg for a long time. I feel very comfortable at the club and team and get along well with the coaching staff. I feel a lot of trust and support during my long injury break, for which I am very grateful. I hope to repay everyone with excellent performances. I am also happy to return to the field on Saturday and continue to wear the Hamburg jersey in the future."
