According to San Francisco Standard reporter Hiromi Kawakami on Monday, the Golden State Warriors have no intention of trading Jonathan Kuminga this summer. Kuminga is expected to remain with the team next season even if contract extension negotiations reach an impasse.

The 22-year-old Kuminga, who primarily plays forward, was selected by the Warriors with the seventh pick in the first round of the 2021 draft. To date, he has played 258 regular season games for the Warriors, averaging 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 50.7% and a three-point shooting percentage of 33.2%.

Kuminga also played in 34 playoff games for the Warriors, averaging 7.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game, and won the 2022 NBA championship with the team.

Kuminga officially became a restricted free agent this summer. Shams Charania and Anthony Slater reported last week that he had rejected a two-year, $45 million offer from the Warriors and had approached teams like the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns. Charania and Slater noted that Kuminga's decision was largely due to the Warriors insisting on making the second year of their contract a team option, while also ruling out retaining a no-trade option. The Kings and Suns' offers seemed more appealing, especially given the Warriors' struggles with their tactical positioning.

However, the Warriors weren't interested in offers from other teams. They never prioritized Kuminga, and Warriors owner Joe Lacob still wanted him to stay. As Hiromi Kawakami said, "Kuminga won't be traded this summer. He will return to the Warriors lineup this season, depending on whether he signs the team's offer or accepts a one-year, $7.9 million qualifying offer."

"Joe Lacob remains a huge fan of Kuminga. He's determined to keep the 22-year-old, or at least get a real return in a trade. He's willing to be patient."
