Liverpool have officially announced the signing of Rennes centre-back Jacquet this summer for a transfer fee of €72 million.

Liverpool officially announced on Thursday that Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet will officially join the club next season. The two sides signed a contract until June 30, 2031, with an option to extend for another year.

Fabrizio Romano further pointed out that the base fee for Jacquet's transfer to Liverpool was €60 million. If performance-related bonuses are included, the total transfer fee could reach as high as €72 million.

Jacquet, 20, was born in Bondy, a suburb northeast of Paris, France. He made his professional debut for Rennes in Ligue 1 on January 13, 2024. He was then loaned to Clermont for one season, during which he made 24 appearances and contributed 2 goals and 2 assists.

Since returning to the team in February 2025, Jacquet has quickly grown into an important member of Rennes' defense. To date, he has made 31 appearances for Rennes, providing one assist.

At the national team level, Jacquet has made 5 appearances for France U21. He also led France U19 to the final of the 2024 UEFA European Under-19 Championship and was selected for the tournament's best XI.

Thanks to his solid defensive performances, Jacquet attracted the attention of several European giants during this winter transfer window. Chelsea was once considered the frontrunner to sign him, while Arsenal and Bayern Munich were also linked with the move.

However, Jacquet ultimately chose Liverpool over Chelsea. Chelsea reportedly made the same offer as Liverpool, but the return of Mamadou Sarr and Josh Achampong's retention left Chelsea with an overabundance of young center-backs.

In contrast, Liverpool are short-handed at center-back: with Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni sidelined due to injury, the Reds currently only have Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahim Konaté as regular starters. Jacquet therefore believes he will get more playing time at Anfield.
