Galatasaray announced on its official website on Tuesday that Manchester City's legendary former Germany international midfielder İlkay Gündoğan has joined the club on a free transfer.

According to the Turkish Süper Lig giants' official statement, Gündoğan has signed on a short-term two-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2027.

İlkay Gündoğan, who will turn 35 next month, was born on October 24, 1990, in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. He is 1.80 meters tall and primarily plays as a center midfielder, but he can also play as an attacking midfielder or defensive midfielder. He holds dual German and Turkish citizenship.

Gündoğan joined Schalke 04's youth academy at the age of eight, moved to Bochum's youth academy in 2005, and began playing for Bochum's reserve team in 2008. The following summer, he joined Nuremberg and completed his Nuremberg first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in May 2009.

In May 2011, Gündoğan joined Borussia Dortmund for €4.5 million.

During his five-year spell with BVB, Gundogan won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and DFL-Super Cup once each, as well as reaching the UEFA Champions League final once with the club.

In June 2016, Gündoğan joined Manchester City for £20 million.

After leaving the club at the end of his contract in the summer of 2023, Gündoğan joined Barcelona on a free transfer.

Last August, Gündoğan returned to Manchester City on a free transfer.

During his eight-year spell with the Cityzens, Gündoğan made 358 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions, scoring 65 goals and providing 47 assists. During which he has won the Premier League five times, the Carabao Cup four times, the FA Cup twice, the Community Shield twice, the UEFA Champions League once, and reached the round of 16s of the FIFA Club World Cup once with the club.
