Marty Cifuentes admits the team still has a lot of room for improvement

Matí Cifuentes admitted that Leicester City failed to perform to their full potential in a 2-1 defeat to Preston North End. Milutin Osmajic scored the winning goal in the 85th minute of the Championship match at Deepdale Stadium. Earlier, Alfie Devine had opened the scoring, and Jeremy Monga had equalized.

Although the 16-year-old became the club's youngest goalscorer, the achievement failed to help the team take victory away from Preston. After the final whistle, Matí Cifuentes was visibly frustrated with the defeat, and was particularly unhappy with the way the team conceded the goal.

"The team's overall performance was disappointing, not just because of the loss," said Marty Cifuentes. "I think we could have handled the first goal better."

"We discussed before the game that the opponent would use two strikers, usually with one striker as the fulcrum and the other responsible for breaking into space. However, they easily passed the ball behind our defense many times. Our defensive execution was obviously not in place and we really didn't do it well."

"It was an extremely difficult match, probably the one we struggled the most, but we didn't perform to the level we should have. We equalized at one point and put pressure on the team for several periods. However, they scored on a counterattack, which is not uncommon in this game."

“We need to improve our performance and work more closely together as a team, unify our attack and intensify our pressing. The opponent managed to launch many long transitions and quick counterattacks, which unfortunately led to the second goal.”

"We are very aware of the opponent's style of play, so we must work hard to integrate our style into the game. Our goal is to play ground balls and advance quickly. Unfortunately, however, we lacked effective quick counter-pressing today and failed to gain an advantage in physical confrontation."

He added: "The reality is that this game is never going to be perfect. "On a mental level, it's almost impossible to dominate for the entire 95 minutes. It requires the intense focus and concentration that these types of games demand."

"Just like our first-half performance against Sheffield Wednesday, there were ups and downs and mistakes in this game and that is something we must seriously improve on."
