Nagelsmann urges Germany to improve efficiency as they are just one step away from the World Cup finals.

Germany defeated Luxembourg 2-0 in the latest round of European 2026 World Cup qualifiers, thanks to two goals from Waltmard. Nagelsmann said his team was too slow in the first half and urged the "German machine" to be more engaged in the next key match.

The deadlock in this match was not broken until the 49th minute of the second half. Sané dribbled forward and passed the ball across to Walter Madd, who slid in and scored, giving Germany a 1-0 lead.

In the 69th minute, Ridler Baku received the ball and passed it straight into the penalty area, where Walter Madd fired a low shot into the net, giving Germany a 2-0 lead over Luxembourg.

Germany ultimately defeated Luxembourg 2-0 away from home. Germany currently leads Group A with 12 points, and only needs a draw in their next match against Slovakia to secure a place in the World Cup finals.

Germany's head coach Julian Nagelsmann said, "We got three points. The most important thing in football is the result, but this game was more difficult than we expected. We had a slow pace again in the first half, and we didn't really get into the rhythm until the second half. In the first 45 minutes, we lacked flexibility and motivation, but we were definitely more engaged in the second half."

“We could have easily conceded a goal, but we didn’t. The most important thing for me is that we seized our chances and won the game. I think we only managed one or two effective passes into the attacking third in the first half. We played too cautiously and frequently brought goalkeeper Oliver Baumann into the playmaking, which was unnecessary in many situations.”

In addition, Nagelsmann said, "Sané had two excellent attacks that directly led to two goals for us. He handled the first goal very well, performed very well overall, and made a decisive contribution at the crucial moment."

“I want to see Kevin Shad make more runs and break through the defense. Walter Madd has to drop back frequently to receive the ball, so we hope Kevin Shad can bring a new level to the game.”

When asked about the next crucial match, Nagelsmann said, "I never ask the team to aim for just one point; we will strive for victory with all our might. That is our standard, and it must be our standard."
