Another quarter-final clash in the 2025/26 EFL Cup will take place, with Newcastle United hosting Fulham at St. James' Stadium. Manager Eddie Howe has stated that after recent defeats, his team must find a way to win and turn things around.

In the round of 16, Newcastle United defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 with goals from Fabian Schal and Walter Madd, advancing to the quarterfinals.

Speaking about defender Dan Burn's injury, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said, "This is a big blow to us because he's been playing exceptionally well in recent weeks. He has a rib problem, and it also involves his lungs. We wish him a speedy recovery, and he is expected to be out for four to six weeks."

“We are not sure when Sven Botman will return to the team, but he is recovering well, just not ready to play yet. Emil Kraft and Trippier continue to be out, with their recovery time expected to be around the New Year.”

Eddie Howe continued, "The beauty of football is that there's always another opportunity to focus our attention, and after the previous defeat, this is a good thing for us. It was a tough game, but also a great opportunity to advance to the semi-finals of this competition again, which is a positive goal."

In addition, in the earlier Premier League derby, Newcastle lost 0-1 to Sunderland after an own goal. Meanwhile, Fulham, led by Marco Silva, defeated Burnley 3-2 in the 16th round of the Premier League.
