Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo revealed that Taiwo Awoniyi is recovering steadily and still needs time to get back to his best. He hopes the striker can return to training next week and encourages the team to stay united and keep moving forward after going through a difficult period.
Taiwo Awoniyi underwent surgery earlier this week and is currently recovering in hospital. Nuno Espirito Santo revealed in his pre-match press conference that he expects Taiwo Awoniyi to return to training at the Nigel Doty Academy next week.
Nuno Espirito Santo said: "His surgery went well and he is currently under postoperative observation. He is still in the recovery stage and visits must follow the doctor's arrangements, but his family has always been with him."
"We are worried but we remain optimistic. This is a difficult moment for us and for everyone. He is injured and what he is going through is not easy. Taiwo Awoniyi's absence has had a certain impact on the team. This week has been very difficult for us."
"If he was in the team, it would probably be different. But the team has to move on and focus on preparation. We know he is in good condition but it will take some time to recover. We hope he will be back next week because he is a very good player."
