Lens head coach Will Still announced on Monday that he would resign from all positions in the team and return to England to accompany his terminally ill wife.
Still personally announced his departure in an interview with French TV station DAZN.
He said: "From next season, I will no longer be the Lens head coach. The main reason that had forced me to make this decision is that I have to go home. I think everyone should know what happened to my family, so that's why I was forced to leave."
After resigning as head coach, his brother Edward, who is his assistant, will also return to England with him to help him take care of his wife.
Although there are reports which claimed that Still will be appointed as the Southampton head coach after returning to England, DAZN's reporters had denied such rumours.
Currently, accompanying his wife is still the main thing that Still will focus on. Whether he will accept the task of coaching the relegated Premier League club in the near future depends on his wife's condition.
In March 2025, Still's wife, Emma Saunders, a female news anchor for Sky Sports, was diagnosed with encephalitis and thyroid cancer.
Since then, Saunders immediately stopped working and received comprehensive treatment until recently when she began planning to slowly try to come back.
Perhaps because of his concerns about his wife and being away from home, the Ligue 1 dark horse's performance this season was up and down, and in the end they could only regretfully miss qualification for the UEFA Conference League by 5 points.
