Official statement: Müller will remain in Vancouver's Whitewater Macao until December 2026, with an annual salary of €6 million.

Vancouver Whitecaps have officially announced that they have exercised the contract extension option for Thomas Müller. This means that Müller will continue to play for the Vancouver Whitecaps for another season, until December 2026.

Since joining the Vancouver Whitecaps in June 2025, the 36-year-old Müller has made 13 appearances in all competitions, scoring 9 goals and providing 4 assists. He also helped the team reach the MLS Cup Finals last week, but ultimately lost 1-3 to Messi's Inter Miami.

Despite failing to lift the trophy, Müller remains confident about the Vancouver Whitecaps. In a post-match interview, he declared, "We will definitely return to the final next year, and we will be stronger than this year."

"A year ago, no one could have predicted that the team would have such a season. Perhaps it's too early to talk about next year, but I maintain that we haven't reached our peak yet. We are on the rise. We have a very young, talented, and motivated team. Big losses often build up a lot of energy for the future, and everyone should understand that."

Before joining the Vancouver Whitecaps, Müller had played for Bayern Munich for 25 years. As a product of Bayern's youth academy, he made 756 appearances for the team, contributing 250 goals and 276 assists, and winning 2 Champions League titles, 2 Club World Cup titles, 13 Bundesliga titles, 2 UEFA Super Cup titles, 6 German Cup titles, and 8 German Super Cup titles with the club.

Müller also made 131 appearances for the German national team, including four World Cups (2010, 2014, 2018, 2022) and four European Championships (2012, 2016, 2021, 2024). He scored 45 goals and provided 41 assists, and helped Germany win the 2014 World Cup.

All indications suggest that Müller will become a designated player (DP) after his contract extension. He initially joined with a target allocation fund (TAM) of €600,000, and becoming a DP would mean his annual salary would increase to €6 million.
