Mainz 05 announced on Thursday that they have signed a contract extension with German striker Nelson Wepper. The new contract extends the contract by three years, running until June 30, 2029, after the original contract was due to expire in 2026.
The 20-year-old Wepper came from Mainz's youth training and made his professional debut in the Bundesliga on behalf of the first team on October 1, 2022. To date, he has made 42 appearances for Mainz, scoring 6 goals and providing 2 assists.
Following the contract extension, Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel said: "Nelson is not only an undoubted talent, but also a true Mainz man. He was born in Mainz and has devoted his heart and soul to it. Nelson is deeply connected to the club, the city and his hometown. We are very pleased that he has decided to continue playing for Mainz for another four years, where he began his football career 13 years ago."
Wepper added: "For me, continuing with Mainz 05 is the right decision. I feel very comfortable in Mainz. It fits me perfectly both in terms of playing and living."
"The club management and coaching staff have shown great faith in me, and I hope to repay them on the pitch. I was born and raised in Mainz and love this city and this club. I'm very happy to continue playing in front of my family, friends and the fantastic fans at the Mewa Arena."
