After Leeds United won the Championship and returned to the Premier League, club chairman Parag Marat made a bold statement at a grand open-top bus parade: "Our goal is to become one of the best clubs in Europe."
On Monday, the city center of Leeds was paralyzed by the celebrations, with tens of thousands of fans pouring into the streets to celebrate the hard-won return of the team. According to preliminary estimates by the Leeds City Council, more than 150,000 fans have joined the celebrations since the team won the championship in the last round of the season, beating Burnley, who were also promoted.
For Leeds United, this return to the Premier League is the result of two years of hard reconstruction. Since July 2023, when 49ers Enterprises fully acquired the club, the reconstruction plan has been fully launched. Standing on the open-top bus, Marat said emotionally: "I don't think many people realize how difficult this is. It's really difficult!"
“It took two years of hard work to get to this moment today. All the hardships and challenges make this achievement even more memorable and make today extra special.”
"I hope I never forget this moment. I want to live in this moment for as long as possible."
"But this is just part of the journey, not the end. We have to keep moving forward and that is the spirit of Leeds United."
"There will be difficulties in the future, but we know that we will get to where we want to be and become one of the strongest clubs in Europe."
