Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka officially announced on Thursday that he has completed a contract extension with head coach J.J. Redick. As for the contract length and specific details, the Los Angeles Lakers have not yet announced it.

The 41-year-old Redick has played for many teams including the Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Dallas Mavericks. After retiring in 2021, he joined ESPN as an analyst. Last summer, after bidding farewell to ESPN, he started his coaching career with the Lakers and signed a four-year contract with the team worth $32 million.

Led by Redick, the Lakers finished third in the Western Conference with a 50-32 record last season and qualified for the playoffs. However, they were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves 4-1 in the first round of the playoffs.

Regarding the reason for renewing Redick, Pelinka explained at the joint press conference: "Trust and confidence. We believe that Redick is a unique coach, and his unique way of expression is substantively helping us continue to shape the Lakers' excellent culture."

"We wanted to send a clear message: this is a philosophy we believe in and will fully implement, and this is also a principle that the players will gradually internalize and embody as they continue to shape the character of this team. I think that long-term planning will be very helpful in building our team in the future."
