German Cup – Mazar scores the winning goal, Bayer Leverkusen defeats Borussia Dortmund 1-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the third round of the 2025/26 German Cup, Bayer Leverkusen traveled to Borussia Dortmund. Thanks to a first-half goal from Ibrahimovic Maza, they ultimately defeated their opponents 1-0.

Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund were locked in a stalemate from the start, with the game remaining very close. In the 17th minute, the away team, Leverkusen, took the lead: Maza delivered a cross from the right side of the penalty area, and Edmund Tapsoba's shot went just wide. In the 34th minute, Alejandro Grimaldo played a precise through ball, and Maza, facing three defenders, unleashed a powerful shot to break the deadlock for Leverkusen.

Trailing by one goal, Dortmund immediately launched a fierce counterattack against Leverkusen. In the 40th minute, Karim Adyemi's shot at the near post, unmarked, was extremely dangerous, but was cleared by Robert Andritch in front of the goal. One minute later, Adyemi was again left unmarked by a Leverkusen defender, and his subsequent low shot went just wide.

In the second half, Dortmund continued their offensive pressure. In the 58th minute, Felix Nmecha's curling shot inside the penalty area was brilliantly saved by Marc Flecken. Julian Yelsen and Adyemi followed up with shots, but neither could breach the Leverkusen goal. In the 59th minute, Daniel Svensson's corner kick from the right was headed just wide by Nico Schlotterbeck at the far post.

In the 60th minute, Maza delivered a through ball down the left flank, and Grimaldo crossed from the byline, setting up Martin Tyrrell for a chip shot into the net. However, the goal was ultimately disallowed due to Maza being offside, and Leverkusen missed a chance to extend their lead.

Neither side managed to score again. At the final whistle, Leverkusen maintained their 1-0 lead and advanced to the German Cup quarterfinals.
