Genoa announced on its official website Thursday that Rennes' Norway international defender Leo Østigård, has returned to the club on loan.
According to the Serie A club's official statement, Østigård will play for the club on-loan until the end of the new season and will wear the number 5 jersey.
Østigård's buyout clause will automatically be triggered if certain conditions are met.
About Leo Østigård
Østigård, 25, was born on November 28, 1999, in Molde, Norway. He is 1.82 meters tall and plays as a center back.
Østigård joined Molde's youth academy at a young age and completed his Molde first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in June 2017 at the age of 17.
The following March, Østigård was loaned-out to Viking, where he won the Norwegian First Division title.
In August 2018, Østigård joined Brighton for £60,000, but never played for the Seagulls. Instead, he spent time on-loan at St. Pauli, Coventry City, and Stoke City successively.
In January 2021, Østigård joined Genoa on-loan for the first time.
During this time, his impressive performances attracted interest from major clubs.
The following July, Østigård joined Napoli for €5 million.
During his two years with I Partenopei, Østigård won the Serie A once with the club.
Last July, Østigård joined Rennes for €7 million.
In the first half of the season, Østigård was a key player for the Ligue 1 powerhouse, but after two managerial changes, he lost his place in the team.
On the deadline day of this year's winter transfer window, Østigård was loaned-out to Hoffenheim.
During his loan spell at Hoffenheim, Østigård played 11 times for the Bundesliga club in all competitions without scoring any goals or making any assists.
