The Golden State Warriors announced Wednesday that they have re-signed 27-year-old Turkish center Ermel Yurtsevin to a 10-day contract. The contract, worth approximately $141,000, will cover the Warriors' next five regular-season games.
Since signing his first short-term contract on March 14, Yurtseven has played five regular-season games for the Warriors, averaging 3.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 11.2 minutes per game. His performance has impressed Warriors head coach Steve Kerr: "I'm a fan of Ermel—he's a very good player, incredibly talented. He passes well, shoots accurately, and has had success in the NBA. Although he's only been here a few days, I've really enjoyed watching him play and also observing how he integrates with his teammates."
Besides the Warriors, Yurtseven also played for the Heat and the Jazz in the NBA. As an undrafted player in 2020, he played a total of 113 games in the regular season, averaging 5.0 points and 4.6 rebounds in 11.8 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 53.5% and a three-point percentage of 21.4%.
Analysts believe this signing reflects the serious injury situation of Al Horford and Quinn Post: Horford suffered a calf strain in the game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on March 13 and has been sidelined ever since. Post, another center, has only played two of the past six regular season games due to a foot injury.
With his second 10-day contract officially finalized, Yurtseven will continue to play for the Warriors until April 3. If the Warriors wish to retain him after his contract expires, they will need to offer him a standard contract.
