Ronaldo says he will not play in Club World Cup

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed he will not play in this month's Club World Cup, despite being approached by competing teams.
The 40-year-old legendary striker's contract with Riyadh Victory will officially expire at the end of June. In May, FIFA President Gianni Infantino publicly expressed the hope that Ronaldo could participate in the Club World Cup in some form - because Al Nasr failed to qualify. But now, this possibility has been denied by Ronaldo himself.
Ronaldo admitted: "I will not participate in the Club World Cup. Some teams have indeed contacted me. Some proposals are reasonable and some are not. But you can't try to do everything and you can't take every ball."
As early as May, after Riyadh won the last league game of the season, Ronaldo posted on social media that "this chapter is over", sparking speculation that he would leave the team.
As he prepares for Sunday's Nations League final between Portugal and Spain, Ronaldo revealed his decision on his future is "pretty much set" but has yet to be announced.
Since joining Riyadh Victory in 2023, Ronaldo has scored 99 goals in 111 games and is still in hot form. Last season alone, he contributed an astonishing statistic of 35 goals in 41 games.
In the UEFA Nations League semi-finals, which was won 2-1 over Germany on Wednesday, it was he who scored the winning goal, helping Portugal reach the final and attack another national team championship. Although he will not appear on the stage of the Club World Cup, Ronaldo obviously still has unfinished football chapters waiting to be revealed.
