ESPN's resident renowned team correspodent Tim MacMahon exclusively reported on Tuesday that the Dallas Mavericks are in no hurry to trade center Anthony Davis.
According to MacMahon's report, although the 10-time All-Star's agent hopes the Mavericks will trade Davis to a team willing to re-sign him this summer, the Mavericks' management has no such intention.
Sources revealed that while interim general managers Matt Riccardi and Michael Finley will continue to aggressively explore the trade market, the Mavericks will absolutely not trade Davis simply for the sake of "making a trade."
Meanwhile, owner Patrick Dumont will not succumb to pressure and hastily decide to trade the player. He is willing to wait until Davis and Kyrie Irving return from injury to see how they can mesh with rookie Cooper Flagg as the core of the roster.
The Mavericks are exploring a range of options, including alleviating financial pressure, acquiring promising young players, and receiving draft compensation from interested teams.
Other options for the NBA team include: restarting trade negotiations in the summer, like the Phoenix Suns did after selling Kevin Durant before last season's trade deadline, or keeping Davis on the team for next season.
The Mavericks recently confirmed that Davis suffered a torn ligament in his left hand during the game against the Utah Jazz and will be out for six weeks, severely impacting the team's bench depth in the paint.
Despite the team's already thin frontcourt depth, The Athletic has confirmed that Davis will not undergo surgery for his injury and has opted for conventional treatment.
This season, Davis has played 20 games for the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, with a field goal percentage of 50.6%.
