Sunderland have officially announced that Northern Ireland international Trai Hume has signed a new long-term contract, which will keep him at the club until 2030.

Hume joined Sunderland in January 2022, when the team was still in League One. With his hard work, tough defense and tireless tackling, he quickly won a starting position and helped the team win promotion to the Championship that season.

Over the past three seasons, Hume has made 123 appearances in the Championship, helping the team advance from the lower leagues to the Premier League. In particular, during last season's promotion campaign, he conceded the fourth-fewest goals in the league at the back, while also contributing three goals and six assists in attack, playing a crucial role in the team's return to the top flight.

Talking about the new contract, the 23-year-old Hume could not hide his joy: "The club has given me this new contract in the Premier League, which is exactly where I want to be. When I first came here I just wanted to play football and did not expect to experience two promotions, but Sunderland is a great club and there will always be opportunities. I have enjoyed every second along the way and now I am very happy to continue to stay."

Regarding the upcoming new Premier League season, Hume said frankly: "I have dreamed of playing in the Premier League since I was a child, and now I finally have the opportunity to realize it. We have a young team and this will be one of the most difficult seasons, but my teammates and I are ready for the challenge."
