Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simón spoke to the media before the opening match of the 2025-26 La Liga season. He expressed confidence that the club is fully prepared for the new season and expressed his confidence in achieving excellent results. Athletic Bilbao will face Sevilla FC at the San Mamés Stadium. Simón stressed the importance of a strong start and stated that he must secure all three points.  

Unai Simon said: "We remain calm and firmly believe that we can achieve great things. We face the new season with enthusiasm and must be ambitious and never give up. I believe we can continue the good performance of last season. No matter who the opponent is, we must show stronger strength. From the first game, we will maintain our unbeaten record at home."  

Athletic Bilbao secured qualification for the Champions League thanks to their impressive performance last season. Unai Simon stated that the players are eager to demonstrate their quality in a top-tier competition. Speaking about their goals, the goalkeeper stated that the team is determined to enjoy the entire season while striving for European qualification and a higher league position.  

Talking about his career at Athletic Bilbao so far, Unai Simon admitted that he feels very lucky to play for the club. He added: "My life is inseparable from this place now. I feel very lucky and I can enjoy it with all my heart. The support of my family, partner and friends makes everything even better."
