Villarreal announced on Tuesday that they have officially bought out Inter Milan's on-loan midfielder Tajon Buchanan. The two sides signed a five-year contract, which runs until June 30, 2030.
Other sources said that Buchanan's buyout fee is about 9 million euros. Inter Milan also retains 20% of the player's secondary transfer commission.
"I feel really good," Buchanan said after signing. "I played for Villarreal in the second half of last season and I'm happy to be back. I really enjoyed my time at Villarreal last season and felt like a real part of the team. I hope to continue to do so in the future."
"I'm ready to start again and eager to show my true strength. I feel like my form is gradually returning and I believe this season will be crucial."
The 28-year-old Buchanan was born in Brampton, Canada, and made his professional debut in the MLS for the New England Revolution on March 9, 2019. He moved to Belgian A-League giants Club Brugge in August 2021 and won the league championship twice with the team.
In January 2024, Buchanan joined Inter Milan for €7.3 million. Due to limited playing opportunities, he was loaned to Villarreal in the second half of the 2024/25 season, during which time he made 13 appearances, contributing 1 goal and 2 assists.
