Borussia Dortmund cruised to a 4-0 victory over 10-man Villarreal in the on matchday of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League League Phase match at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday.

In the first half, Buchanan's goal from a close-range shot was ruled out, while Guirassy headed in from close range. In the second half, Guirassy scored again, and Foyth was sent off for a deliberate handball on the goal line. Later, Adyemi deflected Guirassy's shot into the net, and Silva's penalty hit the crossbar. Late in the game, Svensson headed in a goal. After this round, BVB rises to 5th place with 10 points; El Submarino Amarillo, whose defense, considered the most solid in Europe's top five leagues this season, has crumbled overnight, now sits third from bottom with only 1 point.

First Half

In the 11th minute, Pape Gueye passes horizontally from the center of the box. Thomas Partey quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, took right-footed long shot from the edge of the penalty area. His shot was initially blocked and cleared off not far away by Nico Schlotterbeck, Upon picking up the loose ball, Tajon Buchanan strucked the ball into the bottom left corner of the net with a right-footed follow-up shot from a very close distance box. However, the referee immediately blew his whistle, ruling Buchanan offside, and the goal was ruled out!

12 minutes later, after picking up the loose ball, Marcel Sabitzer took a right-footed long shot from 35 yards out of the penalty area, but his shot was saved by Luiz Júnior.

In the 30th minute, Villarreal had a free-kick opportunity. Partey took the free-kick by taking it short from outside the penalty area. Upon receiving the pass, Pape Gueye volleyed with his left foot from the center of the box, but his shot flew high out of the pitch.

In the second minute of first-half stoppage time, Dortmund earned a corner opportunity. Daniel Svensson took the corner by crossing it into the box. Schlotterbeck headed it across before Aaron Anselmino strucked the ball with his left foot from the center of the box upon receiving the pass. His shot was initially deflected by Santiago Mouriño, before Serhou Guirassy headed it into the net from a very close distance in the box to break the deadlock first and give Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 lead!

At halftime, Borussia Dortmund temporarily go into the breaking leading Villarreal by 1-0.

Second Half

Both teams swiched sides as the match continued. In the 50th minute, Felix Nmecha took a right-footed shot from the right side of the box. His shot was initially blocked and cleared off not far away by Buchanan, After picking up the loose ball, Karim Adyemi took a left-footed ball follow-up shot from a very close distance in the box. His shot struck Juan Foyth's left arm and was blocked off the goal line. The referee immediately blew his whistle, awarding Dortmund a penalty and issuing the latter a yellow card!

Simultaneously, the VAR assistant referee intervened. After reviewing the VAR, the referee ruled that the Villarreal captain had deliberately handled the ball, upgrading the decision to a straight red card for Foyth. Villarreal were forced to play with 10 men!

Guirassy took the penalty, his right-footed shot was deflected by Júnior's outstretched leg before the former's right-footed follow-up shot ended up into the bottom right corner of the net to add his second goal in the match and extending Dortmund's lead to 2-0!

In the 58th minute, Julian Brandt backheeled a through ball from the attacking third. Guirassy quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, took a right-footed shot that deflected off Karim Adyemi's left knee and into the bottom left corner of the net from the center of the box, further extending Dortmund's lead to 3-0! This is the Germany international forward's second goal in three days!

8 minutes later, Villarreal earned a corner opportunity. Alberto Moleiro took the corner by crossing it into the box. Gueye attempted with a header from a very close distance in the box, however his effort was blocked and cleared off the goal line by Schlotterbeck.

In the 81st minute, Adyemi dribbled into the right side of the box and was brought down by Sergi Cardona. The referee immediately blew his whistle, awarding Dortmund a second penalty!

Fabio Silva took the penalty, but his right-footed shot unfortunately struck the crossbar and bounced off! Dortmund missed a golden opportunity to score again!

In the 5th minute of stoppage time, Pascal Groß crossed into the box from the right wing, where Daniel Svensson managed to score with a header from a very close distance in the box to seal a 4-0 victory for Dortmund!

When the final whistle is blown, Borussia Dortmund comprehensively defeated 10-man Villarreal by 4-0.
