Borussia Mönchengladbach announced on Saturday that American striker Giovanni Reyna has joined from Borussia Dortmund on a three-year contract that runs until June 30, 2028.

The official also confirmed that Reina will wear the No. 13 jersey of Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Reina's contract at Dortmund was originally scheduled to expire in June 2026. According to Bild, his basic fee for transferring to Borussia Mönchengladbach was 4 million euros, plus a floating bonus of up to 3 million euros.

Regarding Reina's arrival, Borussia Mönchengladbach's sporting director Roland Wilkus explained: "In addition to being a young player with great potential, Gio also brings a wealth of practical experience. We have been following him for some time and firmly believe that he has the ability to help us on the field. He is very familiar with the Bundesliga and can play in various positions on the offensive end."

The 22-year-old Reina was born in Sunderland, England, and grew up in the New York City youth system. He officially joined Dortmund's U17 team at the age of 16 and made his Bundesliga debut for the first team on January 18, 2020.

To date, Reina has made 147 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 19 goals and providing 18 assists, winning the 2020/21 German Cup with the team. He also played for Nottingham Forest on loan in the second half of the 2023/24 season, making 10 appearances and providing 1 assist.

As for the national team, Reina has made 32 appearances for the US national team since November 2020, scoring 8 goals and providing 5 assists. He was also a key member of the US national team's three CONCACAF World Cup titles (2020, 2023, and 2024).
