Liverpool on the verge of signing Salford City's England U17s international striker Will Wright after successfully hijacking Arsenal's deal..

The Athletic's resident renowned English Liverpool team correspondent James Pearce, exclusively reported on Tuesday that Liverpool had successfully hijacked Arsenal's deal and is on the verge of signing England U17s international striker Will Wright from Salford City.

According to Pearce, Salford City had originally intended to accept Arsenal's offer, but Liverpool suddenly decided to join the transfer battle for the wonderkid and quickly reached an agreement with Salford City.

It is reported that with Jayden Danns, Lewis Koumas, and Rio Ngumoha having been promoted to the first-team, while Kaide Gordon and Oakley Cannonier expected to be loaned-out, the U21s team is short on strikers, and the Reds are looking for new players.

Although Salford City was prepared to accept Arsenal's offer, Wright ultimately decided to join the Reds because he did not want to move to London and Liverpool is close to Salford.

Pearce added that Liverpool will offer Salford City £200,000 to sign Wright. The player has been scheduled to undergo a medical at the AXA Training Centre.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Wright will sign a long-term six-year deal with Liverpool which runs until the summer of 2031.

Wright's arrival will also not affect the club's plans to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

About Will Wright

Will Wright, 17, was born in England and plays as a center forward. His date of birth, height, and place of residence cannot be disclosed due to the UK government's Juveniles Protection law.

Wright joined Salford City's youth academy at a young age and was promoted to the first-team in the summer of 2024. He completed his Salford City first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in a EFL Trophy match in November of that year.

In January of this year, Wright officially became a key player for the club when he came on as a substitute in Salford City's FA Cup match against Manchester City.

Since his debut, Wright has played 4 times for the EFL League Two club in all competitions, without scoring or assisting, but he has a good goal-scoring efficiency at the U21s level.
