The San Antonio Spurs announced on Monday that they have officially signed Congolese center Bismack Biyombo from the free agent market. ESPN's Shams Charania previously reported that the two sides have reached a one-year contract.
The official also confirmed that Biyombo will continue to wear the Spurs No. 18 jersey.
Biyombo, 33, was the seventh overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. He has played for numerous NBA teams, including the Charlotte Bobcats, Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic, Charlotte Hornets, Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies, and Oklahoma City Thunder. Last season, he signed a one-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs and played in 28 regular-season games, averaging 5.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 18.8 minutes per game while shooting 58.8% from the field.
For the Spurs, Biyombo's return means the team has a reliable alternative to Victor Wembanyama and Luke Kornet in the center rotation. He has extensive NBA experience, having played 867 regular season games so far, averaging 5.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 0.7 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 53.7%.
Biyombo also played in 40 playoff games for various teams, averaging 4.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 1.0 blocks per game, with a shooting percentage of 58.9%.
