Official: Sandro Wagner officially takes over as Augsburg coach with a three-year contract

Augsburg announced on Wednesday that Sandro Wagner will replace Jess Torup as first team coach with immediate effect. The two sides have signed a three-year contract, valid until June 30, 2028.
Sandro Wagner is 36 years old. As a player, he played for Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen, Kaiserslautern, Hertha Berlin, Darmstadt and Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. He has played for many top coaches such as Julian Nagelsmann, Otmar Hitzfeld, Niko Kovacs, Jupp Heynckes, and won 3 Bundesliga titles, 2 German Cups, 1 German Super Cup and 2 German League Cups with Bayern.
Wagner also played 8 times for the German team and scored 5 goals, successfully winning the 2017 Confederations Cup.
After retiring in 2020, Wagner chose to go into coaching. He has served as the forward coach of the German youth team, the head coach of the Unterhaching U19 and first team, the assistant coach of the German U20, and has been an assistant coach under the German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann since September 2023.
