Charlton Athletic announced on their official website on Monday that Union Berlin's Guadeloupe international defender Jérôme Roussillon has joined the club on a free transfer.

According to the newly promoted EFL Championship side's official statement, Roussillon has signed on a short-term one-month contract with the club which will only run until the start of January.

In his first interview with Charlton Athletic's official website after completing his transfer procedures, Roussillon said: "I'm delighted to be here and part of the team. I can't wait to start playing and to meet the fans."

The 32-year-old Jérôme Roussillon was born on January 6, 1993, in Sassere, France. He is 1.75 meters tall, primarily plays as a left-back, but can also play as a left midfielder. He is of Guadeloupe descent.

Roussillon played for France's renowned Clairefontaine football academy during his childhood. After graduating in 2009, he joined Sochaux's youth academy and immediately started playing for its reserve team.

In May 2012, Roussillon completed his Sochaux by coming on as a substitute in a Ligue 1 match against Ajaccio.

In January 2015, Roussillon moved to Montpellier for €1 million.

During his two-and-a-half-year spell at Montpellier, Roussillon was highly praised for his impressive performances that helped the club avoid relegation.

In August 2018, Roussillon joined Wolfsburg for €5 million.

During his four-year spell at Wolfsburg, Roussillon helped the club reach the quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal once and the round of 16s of the Europa League once.

In January 2023, Roussillon moved to Union Berlin for €2.5 million.

During his two-and-a-half-year spell with Die Eisernen, Roussillon made 56 appearances and provided 4 assists for the Bundesliga club in all competitions. He helped the team suprisingly reached the quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal and the round of 16s of the Europa League once, as well as securing qualification to the Champions League once.
