Bernardo Silva: We have made some progress

With goals from Bernardo Silva, Haaland and Foden, Manchester City lost 3-4 to Al-Hilal in the 2025 Club World Cup round of 16 and failed to advance to the quarterfinals. Bernardo Silva said that although he and the team were disappointed with the defeat, he still believed that the team had made progress.

In the 9th minute, Ait Nouri made a cross from the penalty area, and the ball hit Gundogan and Bernardo Silva shot in, helping Manchester City take the lead 1-0. In the second half, Marcos Leonardo scored a header to tie the score for Riyadh Crescent at 1-1.

In the 52nd minute, Cancelo assisted Malcolm to score, helping Riyadh Crescent to lead Manchester City 2-1. In the 55th minute, Haaland scored with a low shot in front of the goal, helping Manchester City to tie the score 2-2.

In the 94th minute of extra time, Ruben Neves took a corner kick and Koulibaly scored with a header, helping Riyadh Crescent to take the lead again with 3-2.

Later, although Rayan Sherki assisted Foden to score in the 104th minute and made the score 3-3, Marcos Leonardo scored a goal in the 112th minute. In the end, Manchester City lost to Al-Hilal 3-4 and failed to advance to the quarterfinals to continue competing for the championship.

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva said: "We were very ambitious for this competition and hoped to go further. I think the team played well, so this defeat is very disappointing for us."

"We play to win titles and when we don't win, we always feel regret and dissatisfaction. But the players in the locker room know that we are improving and have made some progress."

With the end of this journey, Manchester City will travel to face Wolves in the first round of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Bernardo Silva continued, "We have regained the feeling of this team, including the atmosphere and energy in the locker room, and the way we play, and I think the team has made some progress."

"We won't be satisfied with our current performance because we wanted to do better. But we have regained some positive energy from the team and are getting back to our level."
