Joao Gomes says Wolves haven't overlooked the importance of securing their first win of the season this week. The Brazilian has been a key player in Vitor Pereira's midfield this season, but he knows more needs to be done if the team is to secure a point against Leeds United this weekend.  

The player, who was voted Player of the Season by the fans last season, is well aware of the ever-present support at Molineux and says the players are now aiming to get off to a strong start for the 2025-26 campaign.  

Joao Gomes said: "We didn't start the game well, but I think we have to keep working hard every day. This game will be very difficult, but I believe we can do well. We need to have more possession, more fluid passing and effective positional changes."  

"I'm 100 percent motivated because this is a crucial home game. We haven't scored yet, so winning this game is crucial for us. It's also the most important game of the season so far. Vitor Pereira is a great manager and he has given me a lot of support and guidance. Not only me, but all the players have benefited from it. I will do my best to assist him and help Wolves achieve a better position in the standings."  

"I've kept in touch with Johan Arias because he played in Brazil. Now he's here with us and he's a fantastic player who I'm sure will be a big help to the team. He's particularly good in tight spaces, which is very important for us."  

Regarding receiving the Player of the Season award, João Gomes said: “It’s hard for me to express my gratitude to the fans. I want to thank the Wolves supporters for everything they have done for me and the team. All our efforts and my achievements so far are inseparable from the support of the fans.”
