◤Premier League◢ Jean-Philippe Mateta scores wondergoal as Crystal Palace forced Arsenal into a late 2-2 away draw..

Crystal Palace forced Arsenal into a late 2-2 away draw on matchday 34 of the 2024/25 Premier League season at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

In the first half, Kiwior scored with a header, Eze volleyed into the net, and Trossard pushed the ball into the net. In the second half, Martinelli's goal from close-range was ruled out. At the critical moment, Mateta scored a wondergoal from long range. In the end, Crystal Palace forced Arsenal into a late 2-2 away draw. After this round of games, the situation of the Premier League title race has changed greatly. Although the Gunners are still temporarily second on the table with 67 points, as long as leaders Liverpool draws or beats Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, the Reds will be able to wrap up the title 4 games in advance; while the Eagles will continue to be in 12th place with 45 points.

First Half

In the 3rd minute, Arsenal got a deadly free kick opportunity. Martin Ødegaard took the free kick by crossing it into the box from outside the penalty area. Jakub Kiwior rose high and scored with a header in the box. Arsenal broke the deadlock early to take a 1-0 lead! This is Ødegaard's 10th assist in all competitions this season!

In the 27th minute, Crystal Palace got a deadly corner kick opportunity. Adam Wharton took the corner kick by crossing it. Eberechi Eze quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, half-volleyed the ball with his right foot half volley from the edge of the penalty area. The ball hit the right post and bounced into bottom left corner of the net. Crystal Palace equalized Arsenal at 1-1! This is the England international winger's 8th goal of the season!

3 minutes later, Eze passes horizontally from the left side of the box. Eddie Nketiah quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, pushed the ball with his left foot at a very close distance in the box, but his shot was blocked by Kiwior in front of the goal line.

In the 42nd minute, Jurriën Timber passes horizontally from the right wing. Leandro Trossard quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before pushing the ball into the bottom right corner with his left foot from the center of the box. Arsenal took the lead again at 2-1! This is the 10th goal scored by the former Brighton forward in all competitions this season!

At the end of the first half, Arsenal temporarily led Crystal Palace by 2-1 into the half-time break.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 72nd minute, Timber made an overhead horizontal pass from the edge of the byline on the right side of the box. Gabriel Martinelli quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, pushed the ball into the bottom left corner with his left foot at a very close distance in the box. However, the linesman immediately raised his flag, and the VAR assistant referee also intervened. Under the identification of the VAR video playback, the refereeing team unanimously ruled that Martinelli was caught offside, so the goal was ruled out!

8 minutes later, Martinelli crossed from the left side of the box, Bukayo Saka quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed with his right foot from the right side of the box, but his shot was saved over the crossbar by Dean Henderson.

In the 83rd minute, Crystal Palace made a deadly quick counterattack. William Saliba made a mistake while clearing the ball from his own back half. Jean-Philippe Mateta quickly followed up, intercepted the ball and took a few steps before chipping the ball against the outrushing David Raya from outside the penalty area with his right foot. His shot flew straight into the upper left corner of the empty net, turning it into a wondergoal. Crystal Palace equalized Arsenal at 2-2! This is Mateta's 17th goal this season!

When the final whistle is blown, Crystal Palace forced Arsenal into a late 2-2 away draw.
