Ipswich Town announce season-long loan signing of striker Juba Akpom

Ipswich Town have officially announced the signing of striker Juba Akpom on a season-long loan from Ajax. The 29-year-old played for Ligue 1 side Lille last season, including in the UEFA Champions League. He previously played for several English clubs, including Middlesbrough, Brighton & Hove Albion, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest, and has extensive experience in the English Championship.

The player becomes Ipswich Town's sixth signing of the summer transfer window and could be handed his debut against Bromley in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

In an interview, Juba Akpom said: "I was very excited when I learned that the club was interested in me. I am very happy to join such an ambitious club. I watch a lot of games and always think that Ipswich's style of play is very suitable for me, so this transfer is a natural and reasonable choice for me."

"My experience playing in the Champions League over the past few years with Ajax and Lille has greatly improved my abilities and shaped me into the person I am today. I came here with the goal of doing my best to help the team, and I will bring a winning mentality and determination both in the dressing room and on the pitch."

Juba Akpom came through the Arsenal youth system and was loaned out to Brentford, Coventry City, Hull City and Brighton before moving to Belgian club Sint-Truiden in the second half of the 2017-18 season.

Juba Akpom subsequently joined PAOK Thessaloniki in Cyprus, scoring 14 goals over two seasons. In September 2020, he returned to England to join Middlesbrough. While at the Riverside Stadium, the striker returned to PAOK Thessaloniki on loan for the 2021-22 season. He then returned to his former club for the 2022-23 season, where he shone, scoring 28 league goals and winning the Golden Boot.

With his outstanding performance, Juba Akpom joined Ajax in the summer of 2023, during which he scored 21 goals. He then moved to Lille in the second half of the 2024-25 season, where he made his Champions League debut.
