Sky Sports' renowned Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, exclusively reported on Saturday in his official paid column that the transfer saga surrounding Alexander Isak and Benjamin Šeško, which has a chain effect closely linked to Newcastle United, Liverpool, and Manchester United, has taken another new twist following RB Leipzig's request to have Rasmus Højlund added into it.
Romano confirmed in his report that Liverpool had recently submitted an initial £110 million bid for Isak but was rejected, while Newcastle United had also submitted an initial €75 million bid to Leipzig for Šeško.
However, contrary to claims made by a those infamously notorious content farm article writers on Sina, the controversial Malaysian Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily, and some obscure Chinese online media outlets on Facebook, Šeško has not accepted Manchester United's offer yet. Similarly, he has not decided to reject the Magpies' offer yet.
The truth is that the player's agent has arrived in Leipzig and is carefully reviewing the proposals from both clubs with Benjamin Šeško. Neither club has "gained the upper hand" in the transfer battle.
Romano also stated that RB Leipzig had not rejected Newcastle's offer at all, as their offer had already reached the release clause.
Leipzig has yet to respond to Newcastle's offer, not only because they haven't yet learned of Šeško's intentions but also because they must first finalize a replacement for the player.
Leipzig's sporting director, Marcel Schäfer, has already identified Højlund as his replacement.
Schäfer hopes to see Rasmus Højlund join RB Leipzig on loan, but the club, owned by the world-renowned Austrian-Thai energy drink, has not formally made this request to Manchester United. The Red Devils have not yet informed Manchester United that the player is available for a £30 million transfer, so rumours claiming that Manchester United has set a £30 million price tag for Højlund are not yet true.
As for the rumours regarding Isak, Romano added that the player did indeed returned to his former club, Real Sociedad, for training alone after the strike, and that he did fly back to Newcastle with the club's knowledge. However, this does not mean that Isak's potential move to Liverpool this summer is completely over.
From the outset, Liverpool already anticipated that this transfer saga would not be smooth sailing, and they knew they would have to be patient in order to pry one of their key players from another Premier League giant.
It's true that Newcastle doesn't want to lose Alexander Isak. As his contract still has three years to run, the Magpies are also in no rush to sell him and have the discretion to decide when to accept Liverpool's offer.
The club's £150 million price tag for Isak makes it unsurprising that Liverpool's £110 million bid was rejected, but this doesn't mean there's no room for further negotiations.
In the next two weeks, before the summer transfer window closes, the Reds are likely to submit a second, third, or even fourth, higher offer. Whether Newcastle United, as some speculate, will actually wait until they sign Šeško as his replacement before selling Isak remains to be seen.
